Nigerian couple allegedly flees with $53.5m investors’ cash as another Ponzi scheme crumbles…Lessons for the Gullible

According to, Business Insider report, Bamise and Elizabeth Ajetunmobi, a Nigerian couple who convinced many people to invest in their company called Global Solutions Ltd, have allegedly fled the country with $53.5 million worth of people’s money unaccounted for.

Understandably, the development has left those affected feeling distraught, with many of them taking to social media to vent their frustration. Local media reported that online forums have since been set up in a bid to assist those affected to recover their money.

Business Insider Africa understands that Global Solutions Ltd paraded itself as a micro-lending platform offering loans to small and medium enterprises at 22% interest. It also promised 10% returns on investors to the people that invested in it. It is not exactly clear how the investment arrangement worked. But apparently, quite a number of “investors” bought into the idea.

In the meantime, the company’s Lagos office is under lock and keys. The husband and wife pair, who served as the Managing Director and Board Chairman, respectively, are nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, their legal representative has refused to comment on the development.

“We have been hearing that the couple had fled Nigeria with investors’ funds. But we have no comments to make about the controversy at this point,” The Gazette quoted the company’s legal representative, Zuriel Consulting, to have said.

Note that this is not the first time that a husband and wife duo have defrauded Nigerians with their purported investment scheme. In 2019, another couple –Gloria Osei and Muyiwa Folorunsho – disappeared after fleecing unsuspecting Nigerian investors with their ponzi scheme called Divergent Enterprise. Earlier this year, Interpol declared them both wanted.
